MUST READ: Not Just a Pretty Face! 愛美愛自己,美容記者編輯必讀!


This is one of my favourite book published in 2007 when I was still working as Chief Editor in a women magazine. I bought it on amazon and finished the whole book on one day and the information in the book is inspiring.
Beauty company sees media as best friend, especially when they want to launch something new. Sometimes beauty reporters and editors lost their angles on the brand and products, and just follow what the press release told them. Because their workload are so heavy and they do not have time. That's not wrong. I was like that before.
But are we just tools in the sales/consumer chain?
I believe we can do better than that. If you really cares about it.
Since I became the Chief Editor, I always ask my beauty reporters and editors to try the products before they write and only recommend the products they really like.
Why beauty editors in US or UK seems more professional than us, because they study and research, they questioned, they dare to doubt.
Do not believe what the beauty companies told you, of course, I know when you write about negative comments about the giant companies, your supervisor will never approved. I know it. But we should not stop critical thinking and we should support what we really cherish.
I wish I could write something like this for Chinese.
