Prescriptives, the makeup company known for skin care-friendly products and custom blends, is going out of business. Apparently, the brand, a division of Estee Lauder, hasn’t been performing well, and its shutdown is part of company restructuring. Eek! What comes next? Please don’t take away our Bobbi Brown or Clinique goods (seems unlikely).
Anyhow, it’s a shame because we’ve long been obsessed with their Magic line foundations, which have the greatest texture. Luckily, Prescriptives fans now have fair warning, as wholesale distribution will end in January, and the rest of the stock will be sold on the Prescriptives website until supplies last. Better stock up now before you have to scour eBay!

When living green become a chic lifestyle, Green business have a fatal war with the green washer. Green Washer means, green pretender, they are not green but they tell and promote themselves as green.

This is one of my favourite book published in 2007 when I was still working as Chief Editor in a women magazine. I bought it on amazon and finished the whole book on one day and the information in the book is inspiring.
Beauty company sees media as best friend, especially when they want to launch something new. Sometimes beauty reporters and editors lost their angles on the brand and products, and just follow what the press release told them. Because their workload are so heavy and they do not have time. That's not wrong. I was like that before.
But are we just tools in the sales/consumer chain?
I believe we can do better than that. If you really cares about it.
Since I became the Chief Editor, I always ask my beauty reporters and editors to try the products before they write and only recommend the products they really like.
Why beauty editors in US or UK seems more professional than us, because they study and research, they questioned, they dare to doubt.
Do not believe what the beauty companies told you, of course, I know when you write about negative comments about the giant companies, your supervisor will never approved. I know it. But we should not stop critical thinking and we should support what we really cherish.
I wish I could write something like this for Chinese.

Urban Legend: Lipsticks contain lead. 含鉛唇膏，你食咗未？

Lead in lipstick. Unfortunately, this urban legend turns out to be true.

Studies show women eat more than six pounds of lipstick in a lifetime -- more than 500 tubes. But do you know that your shocking red lipstick contain a shockingly unsafe amount of lead?

Lead is often present in the pigment of the reddest lipsticks. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has a 0.1 parts per million limit for lead in candy. But Ironically there are no FDA standards limiting lead and other toxins in lipstick.

A study of lipsticks bought in the U.S. showed these contained the highest amount of lead:
• L'Oreal Colour Riche True Red (0.65 ppm)
• L'Oreal Colour Rich Classic Wine (0.58 ppm)
• Cover Girl Incredifull Lipcolor Maximum Red (0.56 ppm)
• Cover Girl Continuous Color Cherry Brandy (0.28 ppm)

Earlier this year -- in a debate that seems to resurface every few years -- the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a coalition of health and environmental groups, issued a plea to the FDA to release information the agency had accumulated on the amount of lead in lipstick.

Cosmetics companies are required to list their "intended" ingredients on labels. But lead is considered an "unintended" byproduct of the manufacturing process and not listed.

P&G a household name for everyone in the world. It takes your life, in your kitchen, bathroom and vanity. Well, when a US citizen can say, "I want to live a year life without made in China", I would say, "I want my life without P&G, forever".
It's patriot and we should tell the giant US company that if you want to sell toxic, low quality products to fool us, sell it to your fellow Americans, do not sell it to us - Chinese. You want to earn money by toxic products, fine, I won't buy anymore.

I read a news from USA Today, last month, March 2010.

The CEO of P&G, Bob McDonald isn't satisfied that every man and woman on Earth already spends an average $12 per year on P&G products.
He's hankering to boost that to $14 — within five years.
In that time, he aims to turn his $80 billion company into a $100 billion behemoth. He's itching to add a billion customers to bring P&G's global base to 5 billion.
He plans to do this by reaching deep into developing countries — China, India and nations in Africa. And he expects to convince folks of modest means — many of whom never heard of P&G — that using its products will improve their lives.

Really? How to accomplish his goal: By indoctrinating millions of poor women into the belief that they need to buy over-fragranced petrochemical products in order to be good moms and desirable wives. Or worse, that they need to lighten their skin with $100 jars of toxic skin cream.

P&G’s argument that any given product contains only low levels of toxic substances, (should not be any, but we just contain a little toxic), such as heavy metals (SKII), 1,4-dioxane (Herbal Essences, Tide, Ivory Snow) or formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (Cover Girl) sounds a bit lame when one considers the mind-boggling volume of P&G products sold worldwide — with 23 billion-dollar brands, and growing.

Love yourself and start living without P&G, they can earn zero dollar from me.

對於被消費者指控他們的產品有毒，長期使用對人體有害。寶潔的解釋是：只是含有少量毒素（正常是一點也不應該有的），如港女最愛的神仙水品牌被驗出含重金屬，還有，他們旗下的其他產品含致癌物質1,4-dioxane和釋放甲醛等有害化學物。

A lot of Chinese wants to say out loud to the world that China is a great country, not weak and poor anymore. As a Chinese women living in a Hong Kong, I would love to say I am proud of China too, hopefully someday in the future. But absolutely not now. No one as far as I know in Hong Kong are using cosmetics from China, may be there are Super Beauty Brands made in China that I do not know, even I know, I do not have the courage to try.

Even in America, people who concerns about toxic chemicals in Cosmetics have to form an organization by themselves, raise money, research and lobby the giant beauty company to sign their agreement not to use hazardous chemicals in their products.

If one day China has the same organization form by ordinary people and achieve what they have archieve. China is definitely a great country, a country should be proud of.
